Home Educated Bird and Animal Workshops – April 19th, 26th, May 3rd & 10th 1.30-3.30

April 19th – Spring on the Farm

Children will have the opportunity to meet some of this years babies including out goat kids, lambs and calves. Children will be able to go into the pens with the babies, learn about the breeds and how we care for them. This will be followed by assisting with the feeding of some of our other animals including our donkeys, alpacas and ponies.

April 26th – Falconry

Children will have a go at making their own pair of jesses (leather straps), they will be able to take these home.  Meet, handle and fly some of our birds including a hawk, learn about the different perches used, how we weigh the birds, feeding; looking at the different types of food and stages of training.

May 3rd – Mammals & Exotics

At the farm we house quite a few different smaller animals. Pupils will have the opportunity to meet and handle some of these including our rabbits, guinea pigs & skunk. Pupils will clean, feed and water and learn about how we look after these animals. Meet some more of our unusual animals including snakes, reptiles and creepy crawlies. Learn how we keep them, what food they eat, temperature control and substrates used.

May 10th – British Birds of Prey

Children will have the opportunity to meet, handle and fly some of our beautiful British birds of prey, these will include the Barn Owl, Tawny Owl, Kestrel and Little Owl. Children will also be introduced to the incredible Golden Eagle. As well as handling and flying some of the birds children will learn about the conservation of these species and their adaptations.
