Home Educated Bird of Prey & Farm Workshops – September 13th, 20th, 27th & October 4th  9.30 – 11.30
Over the next four weeks we will be running some home educated workshops with our birds of prey and farm animals. These workshops are designed to give children the opportunity to get hands on experience as well as learning.
September 13th – 9.30 – 11.30 – Farm Animals
Pupils will learn what its like to work on a farm as they assist with the feeding of some of our farm animals including our goats, donkeys, alpacas, pigs and llamas. This will be followed by going on a walk around the surrounding fields with some of our goats.
September 20th – 9.30 – 11.30 – Owls
Pupils will have the opportunity to meet, handle and fly many different species of owls, these will include the Barn Owl, Great Grey Owl, European Eagle Owl, Scops Owl and more. Children will learn all about the owls: how far can they turn their heads, silent flight and hunting techniques.
September 27th – 9.30 – 11.30 – Fur & Scales
At the farm we house quite a few different smaller animals. Pupils will have the opportunity to meet and handle some of these including our rabbits, guinea pigs, skunk and angora ferret. Pupils will clean, feed and water and learn about how we look after these animals. Meet some more of our unusual animals including snakes, reptiles and creepy crawlies. Learn how we keep them, what food they eat, temperature control and substrates used.
October 4th 9.30 – 11.30 – British Birds of Prey & Pellet Dissection
We will be looking at some of our native birds of prey, looking at why some species are threatened, habitat loss and diet. Pupils will be able to dissect a wild Barn Owl pellet, we can then find out what Barn Owls are eating in our area. Pupils will have the opportunity to meet and handle some of our British birds including the Barn Owl, Kestrel and Little Owl, pupils will also go on to fly a Barn Owl.
£9.50 per child, one free adult with each paying child. Additional adults are £5.00 per person (additional adults pay on arrival).
We advise children wear clothing they don’t mind getting dirty and wellies if they have them.
