Home Educated Bird of Prey Day – February 7th 10.00-3.00
Due to the popularity of our home educated sessions we have designed a full day here at the centre in the company of our birds and falconers. This day has been designed to be educational as well as fun and the opportunity to get close to these fantastic birds of prey.
Starting at 10.00, children will be introduced to some of our owls, here they will have the opportunity to meet and handle some different species. As well as handling the owls children will learn how far and owl can turn its head, how they achieve silent flight and their acute hearing abilities.
We then venture out into the flying ground where they will have the opportunity to fly the different species of owls, experiencing their silent flight as they glide into their gloved hand.
Children will go on to learn a little about falconry; have a go at tying the falconers knot, learning about the different perches used and why, how and why we weigh the birds and feeding.
We break for lunch at 12.30, lunch is not included in the day so please bring a pack lunch with you. We have an indoor area that can be used for lunch. (Lunch is for 45 minutes)
After lunch we head out across the fields with the hawks. Children can enjoy a hawk walk, seeing the hawks in action as they fly through the tress and across the hedgerows before swooping down to their gloved hand.
On return to the centre we will finish the afternoon by meeting some of the eagles. Children will get the chance to meet some of our eagles, handle an eagle and learn about their adaptations, habitat and hunting techniques.
The day finished at 3.00.
This day does need to be pre-booked and we advise you book early to avoid disappointment.
£28.00 per child with one free spectating adult.
*Spectating adult can be with the children throughout the course of the day taking photos etc, the only time adults cant spectate is when we are out with hawks on the walk, this is due to too higher number of guests**
